May 18 Day at Sea
Slept in
and got to the Dining Room breakfast just before it closed at 9 a.m. We sat a couple from Mississippi, who had been
on the same British Isles cruise as we cruised last May and with a couple from
Vancouver. After breakfast we climbed up to Deck 11 to do some walking. The Captain announcement had advised the
temperature was 11 C only going to 13 C, with winds about 18 km per hour and
mostly cloudy skies all day. There was a
gentle swell to the ocean as we walked also including the Bow and Stern parts
of deck 12. Between the movement of the ship and going up the stairs to the
next deck, the Fitbit count for stairs was 75, in only 45 minutes. The actual count was closer to 30 sets of
stairs. After a break we walked some
more circuits taking a break for lunch and to watch a beginner Merengue
class. We had accumulated 5.81 km.
Later in the afternoon was a Captain’s Club
Cocktail party in the Celebrity Theatre with the house orchestra providing
background music and a three song performance by R & B, and Soul singer,
Jesse Hamilton. This afternoon, the ocean swells had increased in size, more
whitecaps were visible, the ship’s swaying was a bit more noticeable especially
on the pool deck where a bit of water was sloshing out of the pools.
We spent
the rest of the afternoon deciding which excursions to choose for this fall’s
Mediterranean cruise. On the way to
dance before dinner, we noticed that some sunshine had been able to break
through the cloud layer. The Americans
who live in the southern U.S. are enjoying the longer daylight, noticing that
the sun rises earlier and sets later than where they live.
For
dinner we ordered Spiced Louisiana Gumbo, Eggplant Caviar and Spinach Turnover.
The entrées were Steak Dianne and Veal Cordon Bleu followed by Austrian Sacher
Cake for dessert. After dinner, there
was a short Casino visit before going to the show in the Celebrity Theater. The
entertainment tonight was vocalist, Jesse Hamilton.
No
pictures were taken today.
Total
distance walked 8.03 km.
